Stew Sharp has been with the OPNAV N81 staff since May 2009, and achieved appointment as a Senior Leader in January 2023. Previously, he served as the campaign modeling branch head from 2017 to 2022, where he oversaw a major reorganization from contracted studies towards organic analytic capabilities. After the transition, he managed the 2018 joint Navy and OSD CAPE study to inform CVN force structure, and led the warfighting analysis portion of the first Navy and Marine Corps Integrated Naval Force Structure Assessment. His prior assignments in N81 include the Navy’s force application and protection Functional Capabilities Board coordinator where he worked across OPNAV to represent Navy’s position on Joint requirements, and the study director and sea power integrator where he led development of branch analytic agenda and responded to warfighting risk questions during budget development. A former surface warfare officer, his at-sea tours included USS Gonzalez (DDG 66) and USS Donald Cook (DDG 75). His shore assignment was OPNAV N86 as the FFG/PC/fleet support requirements officer. His education includes a Bachelor’s of Science from Virginia Tech and a Masters of Systems Analysis from the Naval Post Graduate School. He is lives with his wife, Caitlin, and two sons in Woodbridge, VA.
